Tasting #44: Single Cask Irish Whiskey

On Wednesday, January 8th, the Saratoga Whiskey Club had its 44th tasting and started 2020 off strong! The theme of this tasting was Single Cask Irish Whiskey. It was a great mix of very different Irish whiskies, most of them brought back from Ireland in 2019. 19 members were in attendance for this tasting.

It turned out to be a great night of tasting different Irish whiskies. A great way to start the year.

On Wednesday, October 23rd, the Saratoga Whiskey Club had its 41st tasting as a club! We had a special Luxury tasting (our third) of bottles that were recently brought back from trips and tours of Ireland. 22 members were in attendance for this outing!

Tasting #16 Recap: 2017 Award Winners

The Saratoga Whisk(e)y Club had Tasting #16 on two nights, March 14 and March 28, 2018. The focus of the evening was Award-Winning whiskies from 2017. We had a very large turnout of 30 people for the two tastings. We had four different award-winning whiskies at our tasting, a Scotch, an Irish, a Bourbon and a Rye. Here is a list of what we tasted:

We started with a Kelso Pilsner or IPA
Glenmorangie Astar – Ranked #2 Whiskey of the Year by Whiskey Advocate Magazine
Redbreast 12 Cask Strength – A continual winner in its category by the World Whisky Awards
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof, Batch B517 – Ranked #1 Whiskey of the Year by Whiskey Advocate Magazine
Kentucky Owl 11 Year Rye – Figured this needed an award as well for 2017!

Overall it was a fantastic tasting with lots of special whiskies!

Tasting #15 Recap: Jameson’s Ambassador Dinner

The Saratoga Whisk(e)y Club had Tasting #15 on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at Harvey’s Restaurant & Bar. The ambassador from Jameson walked us through the history of Midleton and how each whiskey was made. This was paired with a 5-course dinner which was a fantastic surprise! We had about 20 people total who attended this event that was provided to us by Meghan from Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits. We appreciate the education, whiskey and food very much. Thanks!!
