Tasting #67: Scotch-Paired Dinner

On Thursday, January 14th, the Saratoga Whiskey Club had its 67th tasting and first tasting of 2021. We started the year off with a really great Scotch-paired dinner. The food was crafted by the very talented kitchen crew at Hamlet & Ghost in Saratoga Springs. We paired five courses with 4 different Single Malt Scotches and one cocktail. It was a dinner-to-go, as the Pandemic still prevents our club from getting together indoors as a group.

Here is the menu and what was paired with it:

First Course: Red Snapper Crudo – paired with “A Step Too Far” cocktail made with Lagavulin 16 Year Single Malt Scotch, Apricot, Amontillado Sherry, Golden Moon Kummel
Second Course: Chicken Liver Mousse Tartine – paired with Gordon & MacPhail’s Connoisseurs Choice Highland Park 14 Year Single Cask
Third Course: Braised Beef Cheeks – paired with Infrequent Flyers’ Linkwood 14 Year Single Cask
Fourth Course: Stilton and Eccles Tart – paired with Glen Scotia 11 Year Double Cask Finish
Fifth Course: Sticky Toffee Pudding – paired with SMWS 48.110 ‘Sooooternes!’ Balmenach 15 Year Single Cask

Tasting #64: Dramfool

On Thursday, November 19th, the Saratoga Whiskey Club had its 64th tasting! We actually didn’t host this one, but had 34 of our members join this great online tasting put together by Mario Campa and Bruce Farquhar, the founder of Dramfool Independent Bottlings. They shipped from Scotland six incredible tastes in these great tubes. Wonderful packaging. And the whisky was not too shabby!

Tasting #61: Single Cask Nation

On Wednesday, October 14th, the Saratoga Whiskey Club had its 61st tasting! We were joined by Jason from Single Cask Nation to go through their company’s history and to taste some of their great whiskies! It was a really informative tasting about their philosophy, palate and how they go about selecting casks. We had six different whiskies to sample and they were all very good.

Tasting #57: Track Tasting

On Sunday, August 2nd, the Saratoga Whiskey Club had its 57th tasting. It was our annual track tasting, but because of COVID, we were unable to host the tasting at the Saratoga Racetrack. We used a member’s backyard to host the tasting on Zoom. It was a really great tasting of whiskies from the Highlands of Scotland. A lot of fun.
